Tips to Maintain Your Delicate Handmade Pieces

Please keep in mind that each item is hand-made and should always be handled with care.

Jewelry items are especially delicate.  I take extra precaution to reinforce the strength of each piece in order to withstand normal and frequent wear. With proper care, these hand-made items will last a lifetime.

I use only the highest quality sterling silver. Each piece of jewelry comes standard with sterling chain and stamped 925 quality tag. Sterling chain can be easily polished with a polishing cloth when it becomes tarnished.

Wood can be gently wiped with a SOFT, lightly damp cloth to remove dirt or spots that may accumulate during normal wear. The ideal wiping cloth to dust or clean ANY finished piece of wood should feel like an old T-shirt that has been washed over years to achieve softness. This concept assures that no microscopic scratches are put onto the finished wood that would take away sheen and glossiness.

DO NOT use a silver polishing cloth on wood. Do not use cleaning products of ANY kind directly on wood. Dampen your soft cloth with a small amount of water ONLY. Do not allow excess water to sit on the wood.

Store jewelry flat, in a safe place where it won’t get scratched or bumped around.

Damages And Repairs

Always be cautious when putting on or removing your jewelry. A bathroom that has tile flooring, for instance, is not an ideal place to remove your jewelry in case it is accidentally dropped.

Keep in mind that if your piece breaks, it may be fixable. Wood typically breaks along the grain, which can allow for an easy and seamless repair. If your piece is broken along the grain, you should end up with 2 pieces that will fit back together like a puzzle. If this is the case, then it can be repaired, so don’t stress!!

Always take extra precaution when storing broken pieces so that wood does not split off at the seams. I would strongly recommend keeping broken pieces separate, storing them in a way where they don’t bump around together in a box. Use soft items to separate and surround the pieces.

Layer them in the same box to save space using pieces of crafting foam (or something soft) to separate them: one on the bottom, one in between and one on top. Crafting foam is sturdy but gentle and will protect from scratches and keep the pieces in place if it is cut to fit neatly and flat inside the box.

If the chain breaks, this can also be repaired.
