This elaborately designed stereo cabinet was the final project for a Level II Fine Furniture course focusing on “Carcass Construction”. The goal of the course was to design and construct a cabinet system, which included fitted doors and drawers.

The solid walnut cabinet system was designed to give the illusion that it is floating just slightly above its base, which is constructed of white oak that has been “ebonized.”

the grain on top Is oriented to create a “waterfall” effect, meaning that the outer pieces of wood were aligned purposefully to connect the grain across the top and down the sides.

The central compartments are composed of two piston-fit drawers with hand-cut, half-blind dovetails, fitted doors on each side, and custom built speaker boxes on each end.

The faces of the speakers and cabinet doors are veneered with a stunning claro walnut burl.

This cabinet was a student project, and was exhibited in the end-of-semester Student Exhibition.

It won first place for the "People’s Choice Award."

This piece was also the first runner up for “Best In Show Category: Furniture.”
